Finca Bellavista is a fantastic place to experience the best of Costa Rica’s avian wildlife. From mot-mots and bay-headed tanagers to toucans and the elusive red-cheeked ant tanager, we’ve got an amazing variety of feathered visitors here in our corner of the Southern Zone. Blessedly located between the Golfo Dulce/Piedras Blancas National Park lowlands and the Talamanca Highlands, the finca is a great stopover for birds from a variety of habitats. And, what better way to spot birds than from a treehouse perch in the rainforest canopy? Wake up to a symphony of birdsong, and get eye-level with a spectacled owl or red-lored parrot. Your birdwatching visit to the finca will be the experience of a lifetime!
With over eleven years of professional experience and years working within the Costa Rica National Park System, Randall's knowledge of birds is vast, but small in comparison to his enthusiasm and excitement to always learn more about them. International birders and wildlife enthusiasts are sure to enjoy Randall's specialized knowledge and abilities to locate some of Costa Rica's most elusive species. His familiarity with the habitats, behaviors, and instincts of native birds and wildlife make him an incredible source of information and the ideal tour guide for those who seek up-close viewing opportunities, yet want to respect the natural boundaries of all life in the rain forest.
This will be Randall’s first guided, private tour of the Finca Bellavista preserve, which is a sought-after haven for a broad variety of Costa Rican birds. Randall performed a preliminary bird count at Finca Bellavista in September 2011, and recorded 136 species in a 24-hour time period. The BYOB Birding weekend is sure to be a fantastic introduction of Finca Bellavista’s spectacular avifauna to beginning, intermediate, and advanced birdwatchers.
